Remember Bible school? I can’t say I remember very much of it, but one thing I do remember are the morning devotions. I remember singing ‘This Little Light of Mine’ and carefully doing all the actions. I understood the words of course, but never really thought about them. Now when I read Luke 11:33-36 the words sink in.
I would smile while singing, “I’m gonna let it shine; hide it under a bush no, no, I’m gonna let it shine”. Well, sometimes we fail to realize that letting light come in is just as important as letting light out. How can your light shine when your not storing any light? “Be alert, therefore, that the light that is in you be not darkness.” Luke 11:35
The next verse is what ties it all together, “Therefore, if your whole body is bright with no part of it dark, it will be as bright as when a lamb gives you light by it’s rays”. (Luke 11:36)
For my eighth grade graduation my teacher gave me a sign and to this day it hangs on the wall in my room. It says, Don’t shine so that others can see you. Shine so that through you others can see Him. This saying is a daily reminder for me.
Letting your light shine is important, but also, is letting light come in. Take a moment to realize Jesus lives in your heart, where you asked him to be. He will never leave you. Let His radiant light shine on you. Then, let His light shine through you.
